The number one problem with two strokes is adequate lubrication
2 cycle engines have no lubrication distribution system. Pre mix two cycle engines lubricants are mixed with the fuels, and in two cycle injector type systems, the oils are mixed with the air and fuel at a rate appropriate to the conditions. In both these cases, the lubricant is mixed with fuel for engine lubrication.

The reasons 2 cycle oils and 2 cycle engines work so hard is very simple. Every engine stroke is a power stroke. With four stroke engines, the pistons rise and are driven down by engine combustion, and when the piston rises again it pushes out engine exhaust gases. In a two cycle engine, the exhaust gases are expelled by the incoming oil gas mixture as the engine piston forces the fuel mixture into the engine's combustion chamber each and every stroke. These types of factors can place extreme demands on the lubricants.
2 cycle engines are the workhorses in recreational vehicles including outboard motors, motorcycles, personal watercraft, and snowmobiles, as well as in lawn equipment like lawn mowers, small tractors, chain saws, and weed eaters. Recent changes over have included direct gas injection engines, in which gas is injected right into the engine's combustion chamber. Also exhaust power valves, they improve the efficiency of combustion at varying RPM's. These types of design changes has allowed 2 cycle engine makers to effectively improve fuel efficiency, reduce engine emissions, and decrease oil consumption. 21st century 2 cycle engines of all types now require a specialized oil technology to allow them to deliver dependable operation, maximum engine protection, and long engine life.
AMSOIL is the leader in 2 cycle engine oil technology, the AMSOIL company has done extensive engineering research in developing a revolutionary new line of , special 2 cycle oils we call the "Fabulous Four." AMSOIL INTERCEPTOR 2 Cycle Synthetic Oil (AIT) was the first of the new oils to be introduced. Interceptor is recommended as a 50:1 mix ratio injector oil in carbureted, electronic fuel injected (EFI) and direct fuel injected (DFI) snowmobiles, ATV's, personal watercraft, ans motorcycles. It's engineered with wax free premium synthetic esters and a special additive package, AMSOIL 2 cyle INTERCEPTOR is engineered to address exhaust valve sticking problems with certain snowmobile models.
Along with INTERCEPTOR AMSOIL's HP Injector Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil, DOMINATOR Synthetic 2-Cycle Racing Oil, Saber Professional Outboard Synthetic 100:1 Pre-Mix Two Cycle Oils make up the Fabulous Four lineup. The application chart below ranks each oil's performance in common two-cycle applications.

Excellent - The best recommendation for the oils. This is the best choice for the application. The oil is specifically engineered for the specific operating conditions of the engines in these markets. There can only be one "Excellent" oil recommendation in a category.
Very Good - A good primary choice recommendation for the oil. This recommendation identifies a 2 cycle oil that is very good in the operating conditions of these engines.
Good - Secondary recommendation for a 2 cycle oil. This oil was not specifically engineered for these types of applications, but the chemistry of this oil is well suited for the operating conditions of these engines.
Not Recommended - This recommendation identifies an application where the 2 cycle was not intended for this use. Use excellent rated products, they offer the utmost in superior performance.
